Why 20 Outfits?

Twenty outfits is a great number to aim for.

It is enough to cover your most common occasions while still giving you variety in your wardrobe.

Of course, you can create more or less outfits if you would like, but twenty is a good place to start.

And the real value of creating outfits is not the number itself. It is the process.

Creating outfits helps you identify what you need to be dressed for on a regular basis, which pieces in your wardrobe work best together, and what pieces you may be missing.

Many people feel frustrated with their closets because they own plenty of clothing but they have very few complete outfits.

They have dresses but no shoes that work with them. A beautiful cardigan or blazer but nothing to wear underneath it.

So every morning feels harder than it should.

When you build a collection of outfits, those gaps become obvious.

You can immediately see what is working, what is not, and which pieces would make the biggest difference to your wardrobe.

It also helps you build a wardrobe that is actually useful to your life.

You have outfits for work, weekends, special occasions, and everyday errands.

Instead of owning random pieces that rarely get worn, you own clothes that work together and get used regularly.

Getting dressed becomes easier. Shopping becomes more intentional. And you feel more confident in what you are wearing.

If you live in a climate with both warm and cold seasons, you will likely have two sets of twenty outfits: one for spring and summer and one for fall and winter.

Some outfits will be worn more often than others during a season, but rotating through clothes every couple of weeks is completely normal.

You can always create a new outfit when you want to and retire an outfit when you no longer like it.

Some of my outfits have been in rotation for six or seven years. Others only last a season.

The goal is not to create twenty outfits and never change them.

The goal is to have a collection of outfits that work for your life right now and evolve as your lifestyle, preferences, and needs change.

So if you feel overwhelmed by your closet or frustrated getting dressed, start by seeing what pieces work best together and what pieces may be missing.

You may discover that you do not need more clothes. You simply need more complete outfits.

And if you would like help creating your outfits, The Twenty Outfit Wardrobe E-Book includes wardrobe worksheets and step-by-step guidance to help you identify your needs, define your style, create complete outfits, and build a wardrobe that makes getting dressed easy.
